Louisville, Ky-based Bourbon & Beyond music festival debuted in 2017 and Fred has since then worked with Danny Wimmer Presents as the bourbon headliner. Later, Fred appeared in the CNBC report “Whiskey wars: Trade tariffs hit hard in Trump country” further discussing the damage the state of Kentucky and the bourbon industry would suffer due to the tariff. In June 2018, the 25% Chinese tariff on whiskey went into effect. He discusses Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on steel imports and the effect of this on the bourbon industry. Currently, Bourbon + is a quarterly magazine that features high-quality, in-depth coverage of each and every aspect of the bourbon industry. Fred published “Will Trump Kill the Bourbon Boom?” on July 11, 2017, in the New York Times. He served as the editor-in-chief, along with founder and publisher John Thames. He launched his own magazine called Bourbon + later that month.
